Chip giant Intel has revealed it will acquire security security mainstay McAfee in a epic deal valued at US$7.68 billion in cash. In terms of the deal, in which Intel will buy all of McAfee's common stock for $48 per share in cash with McAfee operating as a wholly-owned Intel subsidiary and report into Intel's Software and Services Group.

Symantec has completed its acquisition of VeriSign’s identity and authentication business. The acquired business includes the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Code Signing Certificate Services, the Managed Public Key Infrastructure (MPKI) Services, the VeriSign Trust Seal, the VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Authentication Service and the VIP Fraud Detection Service (FDS).

IT security vendor Symantec has announced it has completed its acquisition of PGP Corporation and GuardianEdge, two privately-held companies in the email and data encryption markets.
