Friendi Group secures US$25 m in funding

Dubai based leading MVNO/B-brand provider Friendi Group secured the funding of US$ 25 million to further accelerate expansion plans across the Middle East, Africa and Asia region. The new funding comprises US$10 million equity from new and existing shareholders, plus a US$15 million structured debt facility from Standard Bank. FRiENDi GROUP currently operates using a proven business model delivering significant benefits to its customers and mobile telecom operator partners in Oman, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

SAP to support ictQATAR

SAP announced that it has signed a MoU with the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) to support newly created Digital Content Cluster, which is developed to fuel the growth of businesses focused on the field of content creation, as well as allow for use, share, access and preservation of the content in a digital format especially in Arabic. Adobe plans to make its leading creativity and business productivity applications more accessible to Lebanon's business community and design industry professionals via a new productivity strategy that will center on its immensely popular Creative Suite 5 (CS5) and the Adobe Acrobat application software. APC cautions IT end-users

Frequent disturbances in mains and power outages can lead to companies incurring high IT service loss and equipment damage, cautions APC by Schneider Electric, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services. While the need to reduce data centre power consumption and carbon footprint cannot be taken lightly, some of the approaches being taken to eliminate UPS electrical losses are highly questionable. The comments were made by Shri Karve, Director of Business Development, APC by Schneider Electric, to highlight the fact that UPS which are designed to switch between various modes of operation (i.e., topologies) in order to increase energy efficiency may eventually compromise the protection of the IT equipment. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia acknowledged the potential of ICT industry with the Shura Council eyeing to raise the industry's contribution to the level of 20 per cent of national GDP by 2020. Reaffirming the government's robust ICT outlook, recent studies have projected Saudi Arabia's software market to reach a value of USD 675 million during the current year, up from USD 611 million in 2010 and poised to maintain a healthy growth rate in the succeeding years, while the IT services market is expected to reach USD 1.1 billion this year and sustain a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9 per cent during the 2011 – 2015 period.

LG Electronics accounted for 18 percent market share of LED LCD globally with the sales of its LED LCD monitors touching 2.92 million mark out of 16.68 million LED LCD monitors sold around the world making LG the number 1 brand in LED LCD monitors. From just 1 percent in 2009, LED monitors' share of the monitor market leaped to 10 percent last year. Having prepared in advance for the shift from LCD to LED LCD monitors, LG was well placed to capitalize as the market took off last year.
