Fujitsu recently added six new solutions to its popular ‘Make IT Dynamic’ initiative for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the Middle East, offering easy-to-manage computing power to suit individual budgets. Iomega, an EMC company announced the integration of its network storage products 'StorCenter' with the Axis video hosting system (AVHS). Iomega is shipping the first of its NAS models with an integrated video hosting system client that enables customers to store video files locally and at HDTV or megapixel resolution while simultaneously streaming video data to a secure off-site storage facility developed by their hosting provider. The AVHS-enabled Iomega network storage devices, along with Axis network cameras and encoders, allow resellers and integrators to deliver video surveillance capabilities to small and medium-sized customers that are secure, remotely accessible, and a cost-effective solution compared to DVR-based analog systems with small camera counts.

Cisco today announced to shut down Flip video camera division as part of its new strategy to exit from aspects of its consumer businesses and realign the remaining consumer business to support four of its five key company priorities – core routing, switching and services; collaboration; architectures; and video. Cisco claimed to support the current FlipShare customers and partners with a transition plan, even after the closure of the Flip video business.

Mahindra Satyam bags a large ERP contract from Qatar University

Mahindra Satyam leading global consulting and IT services provider today revealed that it has been awarded a large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) contract from Qatar University, the largest academic institution in Qatar. The contract, which will be implemented over a nine-month period, will cover the end-to-end implementation of the Oracle E-Biz Suite R12, which would streamline the various business processes of the university's different departments and provide real time MIS abilities to give management better decision-making.

Gartner – Android to command nearly half of global Smartphone OS

Global research and analyst firm Gartners is predicting that worldwide smartphone sales will reach 468 million units in 2011, a 57.7% increase from 2010. According to Gartner, by the end of 2011, Android will move to become the most popular operating system (OS) globally and will build on its strength to account for 49% of the smartphone market by 2012. Sales of open OS devices will account for 26% of all mobile handset device sales in 2011, and are expected to surpass the 1 billion mark by 2015, when they will account for 47 percent of the total mobile device market.
