NVIDIA announced today that it has agreed to acquire Icera, a leading innovator of top-performing baseband processors for 3G and 4G cellular phones and tablets. Icera has more than 550 patents granted or pending worldwide, and its high speed wireless-modem products have been approved by more than 50 carriers across the globe. By combining the companies' products and technologies, including NVIDIA's Tegra processor, NVIDIA will enhance its position as a leading player in the growing mobile market.

Microsoft Corp and Skype Global S.à r.l have announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Microsoft will acquire Skype, a global Internet communications company, for US$8.5 billion in cash from the investor group led by Silver Lake. The agreement has been approved by the boards of directors of both Microsoft and Skype. The acquisition will increase the accessibility of real-time video and voice communications, bringing benefits to both consumers and enterprise users and generating significant new business and revenue opportunities.

Netgear recently hosted sales and technical training sessions for its key partners from Middle East in Dubai. The event was attended by around 40 of the company’s top partners in the region and was aimed at increasing more awareness on the key networking and storage products of Netgear and the advantages and benefits obtained from its use.The training sessions were presented by Richard Jonker, Managing Director for Emerging Markets, Netgear who talked about strategic sales and marketing initiatives, while Neil Smart, VAR Systems Engineer, UKI, Netgear, conducted the technical aspect of the training.

Emitac Distribution recently announced that it has signed as an distribution agreement with Azeti Networks, the germany based IT infrastructure monitoring specialist. Under the terms of deal, Emitac Distribution will distribute entire portfolio of IT infrastructure monitoring solutions from Azeti in the region. Seagate recently unveiled the world’s first 3.5-inch hard drive featuring 1TB of storage capacity per disk platter, breaking the 1TB areal density barrier to help meet explosive worldwide demand for digital content storage in both the home and the office. Seagate’s GoFlex Desk products are the first to feature the new hard drive, delivering storage capacities of up to 3TB and an areal density of 625 Gigabits per square inch, the industry’s highest. Seagate is on track to ship its flagship 3.5-inch Barracuda desktop hard drive with 3TBs of storage on 3 disk platters – enough capacity to store up to 120 high-definition movies, 1,500 video games, thousands of photos or virtually countless hours of digital music – to the distribution channel in mid-2011. The drive will also be available in capacities of 2TB, 1.5TB and 1TB.
